NAIDOC Week runs from Sunday 5 July to Sunday 12 July, and will celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, with activities planned for the Northern Beaches area.

With a theme of 50 Years of Deadly, the week will recognise the people, communities and movements that have built NAIDOC. It has grown into a national celebration led by community.

A special celebration will be held on Sunday 5 July at the Tramshed Community Centre in Narrabeen from 11am to 2pm. The free, family-friendly event will start with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony and will feature live music and bush tucker tastings. There will also be cultural workshops held for weaving, artefacts and native plant bushfoods.

At 1pm, Karen Smith, Aboriginal heritage office education officer will present a local history talk.

Further events are planned for the area, including a bushtucker and charcoal art workshop at Manly Library on 7 July, NAIDOC Week story time at Warringah Mall on 9 July, and Aboriginal storytelling, song and dance at Mona Vale Library on 10 July.
