The Manly Aquarium will soon be demolished and replaced with public space. Manly MP James Griffin welcomed the start of preliminary work to rejuvenate Manly Cove West at the site of the former Sea Life building, commonly known as the Manly Aquarium.
The initial phase encompasses thorough site investigations, including water assessments, examination of the existing boardwalk and inspections within the former Sea Life building.
Mr Griffin underscored the significance of sea level and coastal studies to understand the repercussions on the Manly West Esplanade beach after the planned demolition of Sea Life.
While acknowledging potential disruptions due to the noisy concrete core drilling, Mr Griffin assured the public that measures like shade cloth mesh, equipment shutdown during idle times and strategic equipment placement would minimise disturbances.
Access to local businesses and pedestrian pathways will be maintained and there will be no work undertaken on weekends or public holidays.
Upon project completion, a new public space will emerge, respecting local cultural heritage and reconnecting the Manly Pavilion and heritage buildings with the beach by removing the former Sea Life building.
