Man granted bail after alleged assault in Manly

A Fairlight local has been granted bail at the Manly Local Court after being accused of assaulting a man in Manly on 27 January.

The 24-year-old man was arrested on 28 January by detectives in Parkview Road, Fairlight, at about 5.40pm over allegations he assaulted a 37-year-old man on The Corso around 3am the day before.

The accused faced court on 29 January. According to reports, his barrister told the court that the incident occurred in self-defence during an altercation.

According to police, the man was charged with “wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm” for the alleged assault that resulted in the victim suffering head injuries. The alleged victim was taken to Royal North Shore Hospital, where he continues in critical condition.

It has been reported that the accused must continue living with his parents, forfeit his Australian and UK passports and will appear again at the Downing Centre Local Court on 26 March.
