A man has died in hospital following an alleged assault in Manly during the Australia Day weekend.

Officers attached to Northern Beaches Police Area Command were called to The Corso at about 3am on 27 January to find a man suffering a serious head injury.

The 37-year-old was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal North Shore Hospital in critical condition.

Detectives established Strike Force Ditchfield to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following the enquiries, a 24-year-old man was arrested on 28 January and was taken to Manly Police Station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He remains before the courts.

On 6 February 2024, investigators were advised the injured man had died in the hospital.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The investigations under Strike Force Ditchfield will continue.
