A man has been charged in relation to an armed robbery at a Northern Beaches service station more than 14 years ago.
Police allege that shortly before 8am on 22 April 2011, a man armed with a sawn-off rifle entered a service station on Pittwater Road, Narrabeen, and threatened a 20-year-old staff member before fleeing with cash. He was last seen running along Robertson Street.
Despite extensive investigations at the time, the suspect remained unidentified until now.
Following a cold case review and assistance from Queensland Police, a 36-year-old man was arrested at a hotel on Beaudesert Road, Acacia Ridge, about 9.30am on 6 May. He was extradited to New South Wales and charged at Mascot Police Station with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Downing Centre Local Court today. He has been remanded in custody to reappear on 10 July.
