A number of local Beaches Rural Fire Brigade (RFS) volunteers have been helping interstate teams to fight fires on the Central Coast, Mid-North Coast and Western Plains regions in NSW.
Fires flared up amongst hot, windy conditions on the Central Coast over the weekend, which destroyed 16 homes. A further four homes were lost in fires near Bulahdelah on the Mid-North Coast, where tragically a National Parks and Wildlife firefighter lost his life.
Around 80 fires were burning across NSW over the weekend, with the smoke from the fires visible across the Northern Beaches.
On Sunday night, a team from the Ingleside RFS was part of a rotating Northern Beaches Strike Team working on the Red Head fire on the Central Coast. Ingleside RFS posted to social media, saying the team worked to patrol the fire edge and put out hotspots and flickering flames in hollow trees.
The Ingleside Captain was also part of the Northern Beaches strike team at Koolewong on Saturday.
Meanwhile the Belrose Rural Fire Brigade deployed firefighters Jess, Zoe and Martin to the Garlings Trail fire in Elong Elong in the Western Plains region of NSW over the weekend.
“Zoe and Martin joined our brigade this year and are already serving communities far and wide!” Belrose RFS posted on social media. “We wish all the crew a safe return.”
