With unseasonally warm weather for August, it’s the perfect time to start working on your beach body at one of the many free outdoor gyms on the Peninsula. Before you know it, summer will be here! So check out one of these great council-run facilities.

BILARONG RESERVE EXERCISE AREA
55 Wakehurst Parkway, Elanora Heights

The Narrabeen Lagoon trail is always a popular spot for running, walking or cycling. It’s about 8km long if you do a full circle.

For those who feel like stretching their muscles while on a morning walk or run, the outdoor exercise area on Bilarong Reserve is perfect. Situated on the northern side of the lagoon, it has useful equipment that’s sure to suit everyone. You can do chin ups, pull ups, bench presses, shoulder presses and sit ups. It’s got parallel bars, leg press and stepper. There’s a handy car park there also and a playground, so you can work out and keep an eye on the kids.

BERRY RESERVE EXERCISE AREA 1417 Pittwater Road, Narrabeen

This exercise area is also based along the Narrabeen Lagoon trail and is perfect for a pitstop on your morning walk, run or cycle. The equipment on offer at this outdoor gym is box jump, chin up bars, parallel bars, sit up bench and trapeze rings. It’s near enough to the shops in the Pittwater Road, so you can grab a coffee or a cold drink after your morning routine. There is car park nearby and also a playground.

NEWPORT BEACH EXERCISE AREA 394 Barrenjoey Road

Only moments from the beach, this is the perfect location to start your day. Follow up with a swim once the weather warms up, or perhaps you are someone who likes a winter swim. The water is warmer than usual at the moment. The equipment is located near the Newport Beach Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC). Here you can do your chin ups, pull ups, step ups, Plyo Box jumps, and work on your arms with the trapeze rings. There are also parallel bars and a vault bar. The exercise area is near Newport shops so you can also grab a coffee or a cold drink after your session. There is a car park right there too and also a playground.

WARRIEWOOD VALLEY EXERCISE AREA | 3 Boondah Road

This is a reasonably new exercise area and ideal for Warriewood’s local community. A whole new facility has been constructed that includes the exercise area, multisport courts, half basketball court and picnic tables. The equipment includes chin up bars with two heights, pull up bars with two heights, trapeze rings, vault bar, parallel bars, step ups and Plyo Box jumps. It’s in a handy location and sits behind United Cinema and Warriewood Square shopping centre near the Boondah Road playing fields.

LAKESIDE PARK OUTDOOR GYM Lake Park Road, North Narrabeen

This area has four exercise stations along a shared pathway located on the eastern perimeter of Lakeside Park. The stations are stretched over 100m and according to Northern Beaches Council, it’s great for cardio and resistance training. Here you can use a monkey bar, do your step ups, proceed with some sit ups and push ups and there’s even a cycle seat which is something you won’t find at every outdoor gym. The gym is near the Lakeside Holiday Park and you can access it from Pittwater Road.
