The North Shore has officially turned purple, with the iconic Kirribilli jacarandas coming to life. On top of that, the jacarandas lining the streets of Kirribilli have become Insta famous!
For sightseers hoping to witness the purple spectacle lining the suburb’s streets, North Sydney Council is temporarily installing weekend road closures.
The road closures are not for the purpose of the jacarandas blooming, but rather to respond to anticipated crowd size and ensure safety.
For a six-week period, from 31 October, the strip of McDougall Street between Clark Roud and Willoughby Street, alongside Hipwood Street will be closed on weekends from 7am to 7pm. This is anticipated to last for around six weeks to prioritise visitor safety due to crowd size. The closure will be maintained by on-the-ground traffic controllers with vehicle access to only be provided to residents living in the road closure area. All residents are requested to give way to pedestrians and slow down to 10km/h while the jacarandas are in bloom, with the season usually running from October to December.
