Northern Beaches council is inviting members of the community to have their say on a five-year draft management plan for endangered flying-foxes in the area.

The management plan comes as CEO Ray Brownlee sought to balance the need to protect flying-foxes as a threatened species while reducing their impact on residents who live nearby.

According to Mr Brownlee, the draft plan sets out a three-tiered managed approach that seeks to minimise impacts by maintaining buffer zones, offering support to residents and providing an alternative habitat in less populated areas.

“As a species in decline across Australia and listed as threatened by the state and Federal governments, we have an obligation to ensure they are protected,” said Mr Brownlee.

The draft plan will be on exhibition until Sunday 20 November.
