Northern Beaches Council is planning to upgrade the auditorium of the Glen Street Theatre in Frenchs Forest, which will see the venue closed from January to April 2027.
The project will include the replacement of the theatre’s auditorium seating and house lighting, creating a welcoming and contemporary environment for audiences attending performances, events and community activities.
The renewal represents the next stage of a series of major upgrades to the venue following the completion of a LED stage lighting upgrade in 2025 and a comprehensive sound system upgrade in 2026.
The current seating has been in place for 20 years and the new seating will provide improved accessibility options and increased capacity. Upgraded house lighting will enhance the overall auditorium atmosphere, safety and visitor experience.
Mayor Sue Heins said the project was an exciting milestone in the venue’s ongoing evolution. “Together, these investments ensure Glen Street Theatre remains one of Sydney’s premier performing arts venues, equipped to deliver exceptional experiences for decades to come,” Mayor Heins said.
“Glen Street Theatre has been bringing audiences together for more than 40 years through outstanding live performances and shared cultural experiences.
“This auditorium renewal is about ensuring our community can enjoy the very best experience from the moment they enter the venue until the final curtain call.” Mayor Heins said.
