Mosman Mayor Carolyn Corrigan, councillors, official guests and members of local sporting clubs recently visited the revamped Georges Heights Oval pavilion, which was designed to increase opportunities for female and mixed team sports participation.
Work involved upgrades to change facilities, storage areas and a kiosk. Painting, tiling and electrical work was completed, new interior fixtures and hardware installed, and outdoor furnishings improved.
New pathways and planting were added, with the additional landscaping around the building and conversion of lighting to LED providing environmental benefits.
The upgrade was financed by Council along with funds from the NSW Government’s Football Legacy Fund, which aims to leave a legacy from the FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament to benefit all levels of football.
Mayor Corrigan said the improvements would be enjoyed by players and spectators at the popular field.
“The Matildas provided so much joy and inspired millions of people, particularly young women and girls, during the World Cup,” she said. “To have an upgraded facility that provides greater accessibility for regular users and visitors to Georges Heights Oval is fantastic.”
