Narrabeen Lake was a hive of activity over the weekend, as local teen Fletcher Crowley and athlete Jody Mielke completed the Get Silly for 24 hours Challenge, raising more than $23,000 for the Perry Cross Spinal Research Foundation.

Fletcher, who was left paraplegic after a dirt bike accident 19 months ago, travelled laps of the lake for 24 hours straight, covering 270 kilometres by alternatively pushing his wheelchair and riding his adaptive bike alongside Jody, who cycled, ran and walked with Fletcher.

“If you’d told me a year and a half ago when I was in hospital that I’d be doing something like this, I would have said you were dreaming,” Fletcher posted on social media, adding that riding for 24 hours pushed his body ‘to its limits.’

The pair had been in training for six months for the event, with the original date for the event in April postponed due to flooding.
