Experience the fun of the Sydney Comedy Festival

Sydney’s biggest month of comedy runs from 22 April to 19 May, and it’s bringing some amazing acts to the North Shore.

Featuring a dazzling line-up of the festival’s funniest international stars and Australian legends, the event will kick off with the Sydney Comedy Festival Gala at locations including the Concourse in Chatswood on 23 April. There is also a session at the Sydney Opera House on 25 April.

As part of the Concourse line-up, 360 AllStars will bring a new take on the circus, mixing street culture with artistry. It will feature a live soundtrack and video projections.

Gene Peterson, director of 360 AllStars and the drummer in the show says: “It’s a supercharged urban circus, with BMX basketball, break dancing acrobatics and live music altogether in a spectacular fusion of street arts in one fun show,” he says.

“We have world champions and world record holders (performing) and they’re all the cream of the crop in each of these art forms. So it really is an international dream team.”

“We are reinventing the circus and replacing stereotyped traditional circus art forms with contemporary street styles. So instead of acrobats, we have break dancers; instead of a juggler, we have basketball freestyle; instead of unicycling, a BMX rider and so on,” he adds.

The fun doesn’t stop in Chatswood, as the festival will also be presenting a killer cast of the top picks from the 2024 Festival at the Hayden Orpheum.

With a top-secret line-up, the event promises to feature the finest comics, including household names and the next generation of comedy superstars for a night of entertainment.

The presentations are recommended for mature audiences 15 years and over as some of the acts may contain coarse language and adult themes. Parental discretion is advised.

With more than 250 of the best comedians from Australia and beyond performing, the festival is Sydney’s biggest annual comedy event.

Featuring performances in stand-up, sketch, satire, improv, musical, absurdist, theatre, magic and kids’ comedy, the festival program has something for everyone.

Presenters include columnist, podcaster and ABC television presenter Annabel Crabb; UK Taskmaster favourite Sam Campbell; Tiktok toilet connoisseur Sez; Chopsticks or Fork host Jennifer Wong; and internet sensation Chloe Maddren.

International stars include Indian comic Kanan Gill; Singaporean comedian Kumar who is known for his drag persona; witty Angelo Tsarouchas; Egyptian American comedian Ahmed Ahmed and 2022’s Edinburgh comedy award best newcomer Lara Ricote.

There will be an end of festival gala event at the Enmore Theatre on 19 May.
