Member for Manly, James Griffin, will host the Legislative Assembly’s Select Committee on Essential Worker Housing in the Manly Electorate for a full-day public hearing on Friday 25 October from 10am at Balgowlah RSL.
The Select Committee was established to identify and deliver real housing solutions for essential workers in NSW, and speakers at the public hearing will include Member for Warringah Zali Steggall and Wakehurst MP Michael Regan, along with representatives from local organisations such as Hope Housing, Bridge Housing and Faith Housing Australia.
“We know that the lack of affordable housing is the single greatest cost of living pressure confronting the people of NSW. We also know that essential workers are the backbone of our economy and are critical to keeping our schools, hospitals and communities functioning,” Mr Griffin said.
“Without a sufficient supply of affordable housing, NSW is at risk of facing shortages in healthcare, law enforcement, education, hospitality, and community services.
“The Northern Beaches is home to tens of thousands of essential workers, and this Select Committee will play an important role in ensuring that they are included in the Government’s plans to increase housing supply in NSW.
“This public hearing is a unique opportunity for a diverse range of Members of NSW Parliament to hear directly from the Northern Beaches community.”
“While submissions have now closed, I encourage anyone in the community who is interested in participating in this Parliamentary inquiry to attend the hearing.”
The Select Committee on Essential Worker Housing will investigate a range of issues, including definitions around essential worker housing, planning and investment options to facilitate the development of more housing, and where the need for more essential worker housing is most pressing.
