Northern Beaches council continues to show its support for Aboriginal Heritage sites on the Northern Beaches by announcing its opposition to the planning proposal involved in the redevelopment of land at Lizard Rock in Belrose.
In its submission to the Department of Planning and Environment, council claims the planning proposal by Metropolitan Local Aboriginal Land Council (MLALC) does not demonstrate strategic or site specific merit and should be rejected.
Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the NSW government should find alternative ways to support Aboriginal self-determination instead of allowing inappropriate development on bushfire prone land.
Council also outlined concerns with the planning proposal claiming it was inconsistent with local and regional planning strategies and warned it should be reconsidered in light of significant planning, environmental and hazard issue.
Mayor Regan is now urging the Department of Planning and Environment to take closer look at council’s long list of concerns and carefully consider this proposal.
