Looking for fun activities, events, or new ways to connect with others? Say no more! NSW Youth Week is back, and the North Shore is ready to celebrate!

This year #NSWYouthWeek will run from 20 to 30 April with the theme ‘Connect, Participate, Celebrate’ to celebrate children and youth from 12-24 years of age.

To help you to make the most of the 2023 celebration, we have handpicked our top five events across the North Shore.

LET’S DANCE!

Get your best dance moves ready for the ‘Raise the Youth’ dance party! This party is held annually at the Mosman Art Gallery Grand Hall and organised by Mosman Youth volunteers. Come and enjoy live music, creative activities, food, and much more. Save the date! ‘Let’s Dance’ is on Thursday 27 April 2023. For more information, visit the Mosman Youth website.

CONNECT WITH CULTURE

Get in touch with Australia’s ancestral wisdom and join the Acknowledgement of Country Workshop. Facilitated by Aunty Susan from The Gaimaragal Group, this is an amazing opportunity to learn about the meaning and importance of Acknowledgement and Welcome to Country. The workshop will be held on Thursday 20 April at the Mosman Youth Centre. You will work with Aunty Susan to co-design a positive statement for the Youth Centre to use, acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land on which the centre sits – the Borogegal and Cammeraygal people. For more information, visit the Mosman Youth website.

SKATE AND ENJOY A MUSIC BATTLE!

If you’re aged between 12 and 24, you’re invited to a Skate Jam and Battle of the Bands in Ryde! Mark it in your calendar for Thursday 20 April, from 9.30am to 4pm.

And if that’s not enough, jump in again on Friday 21 April for an incredible excursion to Lane Cove for another Battle of the Bands! Enjoy this excursion from 12pm to 5pm.

For only $10 per event, you’ll receive a free snack pack, lunch, and public transport. The youth team will be leading the excursions, departing Chatswood Youth Centre, to get you to and from Ryde and Lane Cove safely. For more information, contact Renee Simpson on 0448 394 793 or email renee.simpson@willoughby.nsw.gov.au.

TURN UP THE DISCO VIBES!

Party the night away and show off your dancing abilities at Discobility. This under-18s disco (from 12-to-18-year-olds) is open to all abilities and is supported by Ability Options and local volunteers. There will be a sensory tent, indoor lawn games, a silent disco, and surprise entertainment! For only $10 you will get dinner, snacks and refreshments, free giveaways, and lucky door prizes. Carers do not require a ticket unless they would like a meal. Throw on your best outfit and join the party on Friday 28 April from 6pm to 9pm at the Dougherty Community Centre in Chatswood. For more information, contact Steven Zohrab on 0448 404 519 or email steven.zohrab@willoughby.nsw.gov.au.

For the very first time, North Sydney Council will be holding this event in the recently revamped St Leonards Park. The course will be open to young people aged 12 to 18 on Saturday 29 April.
