The North Shore suburb of Cammeray received its first community battery on Tuesday at Green Park.
Local independent MP Kylea Tink took to her Instagram to praise the initiative.
“The Cammeray community battery will enable around 350 locals to save approximately $200 a year on energy bills by harnessing and sharing excess rooftop solar energy”, adding, “Community batteries provide affordable, reliable renewable energy for all, reducing the need for costly network upgrades and lowering local energy costs. Initiatives like this help lower power prices and reduce reliance on coal and gas.”
She also thanked Labor MP Chris Bowen and the Powering Towards Net Zero team for supporting the initiative.
This comes as several councils in the North Shore area, including North Sydney and Mosman, push to have more charging stations and public batteries available in the community.
