Mosmam council expects the Port Jackson fig trees along the Balmoral foreshore to survive following suspected tree vandalism.

On Monday, 19 February, the council received a call from a Balmoral resident reporting that they had seen someone drilling a fig tree along the foreshore of Balmoral.

Council staff inspected the area and found that a total of nine fig trees had been drilled. These included five semi-mature and four mature Port Jackson fig trees.

The trees had numerous drill holes, which the council believes may have been filled with herbicide, at their bases. Contractors washed out the drill holes and applied Seasol to the surrounding soil.

Council staff will be carrying out standard processes, including writing to all properties within the vicinity of the drilled trees, and will place signs at the site seeking further information from the public.

The trees will be inspected regularly for further signs of distress. If anyone has information, please call the council on 9978 4000.
