In a heartening return, over 100 baby White’s Seahorses, bred at SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, have been released at Clontarf Beach to repopulate the colony. The five to six-centimetre juveniles, aged seven to nine months, are now navigating the expanded Clontarf tidal pool, boasting an additional 200 metres squared of habitat.

Following the relocation of the previous colony to a ‘Seahorse hotel’ during tidal pool upgrades, the release marks a significant milestone. The NSW State Government, through the Public Spaces Legacy Program, fully funded the new pool and net.

Designed to protect the endangered species, the net also serves as a haven during pool maintenance. Council’s collaboration with the NSW Department of Industries (Fisheries) underscores the commitment to Seahorse conservation.

This is the sixth major release of seahorses by SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, contributing to the ongoing preservation of White’s Seahorse. Visitors are encouraged to enjoy their presence responsibly.
