Northern Beaches council is being granted $86,668 of funding to go towards a coastal management program (CMP) designed to secure the future of the Northern Beaches’ coastal and estuarine environment.

Minister for local government Wendy Tuckerman said the open coast location on the Northern Beaches holds significant recreational and ecological value to protect.

“The CMP is the long-term strategy to guide council and other stakeholders in the management of this important coastal area which has recreational and ecological significance for the region,” Ms Tuckerman said.

The open coast stretches from Shelley Beach at Manly to Palm Beach and also features four lagoons.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said the funding recognises of the role of local and state governments in responding to the changing climate and the environment.

“Preparation of a CMP for hotspot locations of Collaroy-Narrabeen, Fishermans Beach, Bilgola and Mona Vale Basin is well under way,” Mr Regan said.
