Local paint manufacturer Colormaker Industries took out the Northern Beaches Sustainability Award at the recent Northern Beaches Business Awards. Active Networks, which publishes North Shore Living and Peninsula Living, is a media partner in the awards.

The award recognises businesses that are actively pursuing sustainable practices, embedding them into their business planning, operations and marketing.

David Stuart, MD of Colormaker Industries, said that Colormaker was delighted to be recognised with the award. “What we achieved has been the culmination of work by any people contributing countless hours over more than 20 years to make this happen.”

Everything at the Brookvale factory is manufactured using 100 per cent renewable energy, most coming from Colormaker’s 100 kW solar array. Colormaker has a growing fleet of electric vehicles (EVs) charged off this roof which are used for local deliveries and staff commutes, reducing its carbon footprint.

“Our planet is very fragile at the moment,” Mr Stuart said. “We haven’t a moment to lose. Sustainability is something that we care deeply about. With our solar array, we’re delighted to say that there’s a little bit of Northern Beaches sunshine in every drop (of paint) we make.”

Colormaker’s increasing focus is on using solvent-free, low-volatile organic compounds (VOC) and water-based technologies. The company also recycles paper, board and scrap metal where possible, uses LED lighting in their offices and factory and uses rPET packaging sourced from post-consumer waste.

The company recently received a ReVolve 144 kW battery which allows it to soak up excess solar power to be reused on-site, or fed back into the grid when needed.
