Northern Beaches families can now use this wonderful service – and stop plastic wastage.

Click, select, collect, play. Four simple steps to use a toy library and access quality toys which stimulate children’s minds and keep the family budget in line.

The Toy Library Service is now available to all families across the Northern Beaches, allowing them to borrow a range of fun and educational toys for their children from their local library.

The Northern Beaches Council has partnered with not-for-profit organisation EarlyEd Cubby House to provide the toy library. It operates via a simple ‘click and collect’ system out of the Manly and Mona Vale Library.

Users simply join the Cubby House Toy Library to browse the online catalogue, which has over 2,000 toys and games to choose from. Toys are categorised, making selection of the right toy simple.

EarlyEd Cubby House Toy Library has been operating for over 40 years. It focuses on child development and how toys play a mayor role in the growth of children.

EarlyEd chief executive officer Kerry Dominish says toy libraries are a great way for families to offer their young children a wide range of toys to support their learning and development.

“Kids don’t hold on to many toys for an extended period. They use it for a while and then forget about them,” Ms Dominish says. “The toys then end up forgotten in the house or given to charity. Although is more common that they will end up in a rubbish bin.

“Borrowing toys prevent parents from spending money on toys that won’t be used for long, and keeping waste out of landfill.”

Toys are delivered by volunteers to Mona Vale Library once they are ordered. At the library, parents or carers can collect and return their selections.

Borrowing occurs 10.30am to 11am every Thursday during school terms. To find out more, and browse the toy catalogue online, visit the EarlyEd Cubby House Toy Library website.
