The award-winning international textile artist Dianne Finnegan will unveil her original designs and techniques in a week-long exhibition at Crows Nest Uniting Church from 21 August.
Finnegan has family ties to the Uniting Church, which will host the exhibition in Crows Nest. The renowned flautist, pianist, and organist Keyna Wilkins will perform on the event’s opening day.
The quilt, which is Finnegan’s response to Wilkins’ music and the Aboriginal Dreamtime story, marries the two cultures of the Indigenous Dreamtime and her contemporary interpretation of when COVID restrictions were being lifted, which felt like the breaking of a new dawn.
Using her background in geomorphology, Finnegan creates highly unique patterns that have attracted global attention and shared her work through six books on quilting.
Keyna Wilkins is a pioneering Australian/British composer-musician whose compositions are performed internationally and published by Wirripang.
The exhibition will take place from 21 August to 26 August, from 10.30am until 6.30pm daily at Crows Nest Uniting Church, corner Shirley Road and Nicholson Street in Crows Nest.
The opening concert will start at 5.30pm during the exhibition launch.
The bookings for the concert are essential, and the ticket cost is $15 plus the booking fee via shorturl.at/JWZ56. No booking/fee is required for Crows Nest Uniting Church parishioners.
