Northern Beaches Council has found a builder for the replacement of the bridge at the intersection of Morgan and Oxford Falls Road West, at a cost of close to $1 million.
The council has developed a concept design for a new two-lane vehicle bridge with the addition of a new separated pedestrian bridge.
The bridge, built in 1965 over Oxford Creek, was identified in a recent condition audit as requiring replacement due to its structural condition rating. The new cement structure is being funded under the Bridge Renewal Program.
The existing bridge and approach roads will remain operational throughout the construction of the new bridge and road works. This will minimise traffic disruption during the project. The council has said that there will be sediment fences installed around the work site and no work will occur in the creek. Environmental requirements of a required fisheries permit will be followed at all times.
The construction of the bridge is due to begin over winter and is expected to take up to a year to complete.
