Music at sunset on Cockatoo Island
The iconic Sunset Sessions on Cockatoo Island (Wareamah) are returning this January where you can watch the sun setting over Sydney Harbour with a delicious picnic while being entertained on the lawn of the historic Biloela House.
The Sunset Sessions will take place on Saturdays from 10 January to 4 April on the lawn of the historic Biloela House on Cockatoo Island (Wareamah).
Kathryn Roberts director of visitor experience at The Harbour Trust, told NL they were pleased to present the fourth edition of Summer Sunset Sessions.
The curated program of live outdoor music sessions promises a relaxing evening of great music, delicious food and good company. The annual sell-out summer contemporary music sessions have a diverse range of local, emerging musicians across a variety of genres.
This year’s spectacular artist line-up includes Skyscraper Stan, Lady Lyon, Charlie Collins, Mia Lovelock, Immy Owusu, Dom Diaz, Bella Amor, Mina Siale, PA777IENCE and Lucienne with even more artists to be announced.
Skyscraper Stan kicks off the first Sunset Session on 10 January and is known for his razor-sharp lyrics and storytelling. His music is described as thoughtful and poetic, capturing life in all its grit and beauty.
Acclaimed Australian artist Charlie Collins, who fuses country, pop and rock, and Mia Lovelock, who mixes music and art into an immersive performance, are both performing on 17 January.
Visitors can bring a picnic, buy snacks at Biloela House or pre-order a grazing box online with Sunset Sessions tickets.
Did you know that you can stay overnight on Cockatoo Island? It’s the only island in Sydney Harbour that offers accommodation, with a few choices available. There are glamping- style camping packages, or bring your own tent camp sites available. If you’re not one for camping, there are apartments and houses available with private outdoor entertainment spaces.
Cockatoo Island connects to the waterways and homelands of the Wallumedegal, Wangal, Cammeraygal and Gadigal peoples, who know it as Wareamah.

In 2010 parts of Cockatoo Island were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with 10 other historic sites that together form the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property. It is one of the best surviving examples of convict transportation and colonial expansion through convict labour.
The Harbour Trust has completed a master plan to guide the conservation and activation of Cockatoo Island / Wareamah. The master plan looks to share the island’s layered history with new visitor experiences, adaptive reuse and staged transformation over time.
You can get to Cockatoo Island via a short ferry ride from Circular Quay, arrive by water taxi or take a private boat (moored at Camber Wharf). For ferry timetables visit the Transport NSW website.
