Councillor Sue Heins, representing the Curl Curl Ward, has emerged as the newly elected Mayor of the Northern Beaches.

In an Extraordinary Council Meeting held after Michael Regan’s resignation, the council voted in favour of Councillor Heins for the position. Having first been elected to the council in 2012, she will serve as Mayor until the upcoming Mayoral election in September.

“I am looking forward to collaborating with my fellow Councillors and thrilled to serve the Northern Beaches community in this new role,” Mayor Heins said.

“I would like to thank Councillor Regan for his 15 years of devoted service as Mayor to both Northern Beaches Council and the former Warringah Council. His commitment to the local community will go down in history and is something to be commended and appreciated,” she added.

In the wake of Councillor Heins assuming the mayoral role, the council will conduct a vote to appoint a new Deputy Mayor, filling the vacancy left by her transition. This decision will be reached during the council meeting slated for 23 May 2023.

Councillor Rory Amon has also resigned from the Northern Beaches Council. To fill the resulting vacancy in the Pittwater Ward, the council will consult with the NSW Electoral Commission, seeking a countback of the ballot papers.

The next Local Government elections are scheduled for September 2024.
