Northern Beaches Christian School took its annual Student Opportunity Week to new heights, offering secondary students various adventure options.
Over 900 students in Years 8 to 12 had the chance to choose from 15 interest-specific camps, providing immense variety and the opportunity to pursue their passions or take on new challenges.
This year, the range of residential and day programs offered included coastal water activities, art-making workshops, urban challenges, camping adventures, high-performance surf camps, mountain biking, water sports, ecosystem studies, retreats, and study programs.
Riley Redman, a Year 9 student from Collaroy, selected the elite surfing program held at Surfing Australia’s High-Performance Centre on the Gold Coast. Riley said: “I learned different techniques to train for surfing as well as some good workouts and stretches.”
Warriewood Year 8 student Chelsea McCredie relished her four-day mountain biking program in Stromlo Forest, Canberra. “I really enjoyed being around a group of mates who were not my social group from school. The professional coaching was good too, as I learned new techniques to get down the mountain and grew in confidence,” she explained.
For budding artist Isabella Quail from Newport, the four-day art-making workshop at the Arthur Boyd Centre in Bundanon was a revelation. “Staff guided us through activities, and they were really fun. I realised I’m much better at painting than drawing, so I might go out and paint a landscape from home,” Isabella said.
