Member for Mackellar Sophie Scamps will officially launch her campaign for the 2025 election with her mini music festival Election Beats 2025.
A repeat of the same event she held in 2022, up to 3,000 locals are expected to gather in Mona Vale Village Park on 5 April. TV and music personality Danny Clayton will host the event, which will include performances by local music acts and a keynote speech from Ms Scamps.
Perhaps the act likely to draw the most attention will be local heroes and Australian indie superstars Lime Cordiale, who have been vocal in their support of the independent in the past, with member Oli Leimbach stating “It’s so important for young people to register to vote — we need that youthful voice in parliament. We’re playing this show to encourage people to vote for Sophie Scamps. Sure, we care a lot about live music (and so does Sophie), but we’re also ocean lovers, environmentalists, and we stand for equality and integrity. That’s what the Northern Beaches is all about, and that’s why we’re voting for Sophie.”
Up-and-coming rock band Le Shiv will also perform alongside local acts Ah Honey, BabyFever, and DJ Jaquel.
The aim of the event, according to Ms Scamps, is to encourage the young people of Mackellar to become more involved in politics to have the issues that matter to them heard: “Millennials and Gen Zs will make up 40% of voters at this year’s election, and I’m hearing loud and clear they want real action on climate change, on housing affordability, an economy that works for them, and a future they can believe in.”
