The Return and Earn reverse vending machine has been removed from its location at North Narrabeen. Northern Beaches Council was advised about the removal that occurred on 14 January by Tomra, its State Government’s network operator.

The action has been taken due to the landowner, the Department of Education, needing the space for other purposes.

Other options that are still available in the area are the Reverse Vending Machine at Time & Tide Hotel in Dee Why and the one at Pittwater RSL, in Mona Vale.

Return and Earn is the largest litter reduction initiative introduced in NSW. Starting in December 2017, the scheme has collected over 4 billion containers through its over 600 return points across the state.

The system works by offering a 10c refund to consumers for depositing eligible drink containers at return points. There are four types of return points: Reverse Vending Machine (including centres), Automated Depot, an Over the Counter site, or a Donation Station.
