The hotly contested AR Bluett Memorial Award recognising the most progressive metropolitan and rural council has been awarded to Northern Beaches council.

Mayor Michael Regan welcomed the accolade and praised fellow councillors, CEO and all council staff for their commitment to providing the highest quality service to the Northern Beaches community.

“Since amalgamation we have had a huge focus on repairing and renewing ailing infrastructure, delivering long term financial stability and putting the community at the centre of everything we do,” Mayor Regan said.

Mayor Regan also reflected on 2021 and 2022 being a tough couple of years for the local area, with the pandemic continuing to take its toll and devastating rainstorms which lead to the Northern Beaches twice being declared a natural disaster zone.

“We took every opportunity to reconnect our community and boost our economy,” he said.

“Winning the AR Bluett Memorial Award is an incredible honour and I am thrilled Northern Beaches has been recognised,” Mayor Regan said.

Out of 125 councils across NSW, Northern Beaches council received the award after being described as “the pinnacle of local government achievement.”
