North Sydney council has recently carried out a request to transport for NSW to fund an e-scooter trial in the North Sydney local government area.

It is understood the trial has been a work-in-progress since 28 November 2021, where former transport minister Rob Stokes announced that NSW would facilitate the delivery of the e-scooters.

Following Mr Stokes announcement, a number of concerns were raised at another meeting in mid-July this year, when NSW councils were invited to apply to participate in the trial, with applications due on 30 September 2022.

Selecting suitable trial areas, financial burdens, safety issues and implications of the road safety audit requirements were some of the issues raised at the meeting.

Upon consideration of the concerns and the uncertainty around costs being requested, it was suggested that North Sydney council consider its position on further participation in the trial and carry out a request for an extension of two months from the application due date (30 September) with transport NSW.
