Northern Beaches Council (NBC) will install new walking and cycling paths to improve safety for pedestrians and
cyclists, with help from a $5.6 million State Government grant.
Almost $4 million of the funding – which was provided via Transport NSW’s Get NSW Active programme – is to be spent on a new pedestrian and cycle bridge that will run along Pittwater Road over Manly Creek.
Mayor Sue Heins said the funding was a key step towards encouraging physical activity across the area.
“This will enable important walking and cycling paths to be constructed, particularly along busy Pittwater Road. Council is committed to encouraging people to walk or cycle as part of their everyday travel.
“Active transport such as cycling is great for the environment, community health and takes the pressure off our very busy roads in the Northern Beaches,” she added.
Work is scheduled to begin in the 2023/2024 financial year.
