Member for Willoughby Tim James has announced that women living with severe symptoms of menopause will be soon able to access specialised care at Royal North Shore Hospital (RNSH).
The Australian-first menopause health hub has been made possible thanks to NSW government’s $40 million budget commitment which allows the Northern Sydney Local Health District to expand its menopause services.
It is understood the RNSH hub will be one of 16 established across NSW which will support around 5,500 women each year as they face daily challenges of living and working while enduring menopausal symptoms.
Mr James said the hub is aimed at addressing this issue for women, as well as break down social stigmas around discussing and seeking treatment for menopause.
“I welcome this commitment to improve vital health services for women in the Willoughby area,” he said.
Minister for Health Brad Hazzard also added that the network of menopause services across the state will also help women manage the longer term health risks associated with menopause, such as osteoporosis, heart disease and high blood pressure.
All 16 networked menopause services are expected to be operational by late 2023.
