The iconic 10 kilometre Manly to Spit Scenic Walkway has officially reopened after crucial repairs that will ensure locals and visitors alike can take in the breathtaking views for many more years to come.

The extensive and complex repairs included the installation of 40 square metres of new decking that was carried in by hand in over 220 trips to ensure minimal environmental impact and maintain the integrity of the popular path.

Northern Beaches Mayor Sue Heins emphasised the importance of the upgrades “Sections of this popular walk have been repaired over the years but the wooden stairs and deck were becoming slippery and deteriorated. The new decking will ensure the area is safe for everyone and help us reduce costs on repairs in the long run,” mayor Heins said.

“Not only did the team clock up over 50 kilometres carrying materials in by hand to help protect the environment, they also used innovative ways to prefabricate sections indoors so they didn’t need to down tools during the winter storms and the walkway could be finished quickly for the community,” mayor Heins added.

These works are part of Council’s ongoing commitment to maintaining and improving the safety and accessibility of local tracks and trails across the Northern Beaches.
