Manly local, four-time paralympian and 2022 bronze medallist Ben Tudhope claimed a silver medal in the SB-LL2 at the Milano Cortina Winter Paralympics this Sunday, 8 March.
The silver medal, which was the first medal for Australia in this year’s Paralympics, is Tudhope’s second Paralympic medal after 2022 in Beijing, which was also Australia’s only medal that season. Tudhope overcame a dislocated shoulder that he sustained in his first round to get the win, which he described as ‘insane.’
“To be able to get it done and keep Australian Paralympic Winter sport’s legacy going – I think we’ve medalled at every single Games since ’92 – I’m proud to be an Aussie,” Tudhope told Paralympics Australia.
Tudhope has attended every Winter Paralympics since 2014, where he started his career at 14 as the youngest athlete competing from any country. Aside from his Paralympic achievements, he has also won the Crystal Globe as the overall Snowboard Cross season champion twice and been named NSW Institute of Male Sport Para-Athlete of the Year, Australian Institute of Sport Male Athlete of the Year and Snow Australia Paralympic Male Athlete of the Year.
Tudhope and the rest of the Para snowboard squad will compete in the banked slalom event next Saturday, March 14.
