Groove to local and international artists at the Northern Beaches Music Festival
Get set to enjoy the best local and international artists live on stage this 2 and 3 November for a weekend of performances, food and fun at Narrabeen.
Multi-genre world music performers will entertain crowds at The Northern Beaches Music Festival, where more than 40 acts will feature across four stages.
The event will be at Tramshed Community Arts Centre and The Berry Reserve by the beautiful Narrabeen Lake, and there’s something for everyone.
From the Middle Eastern dance rhythms of Aljamia, to the toe-tapping, hard-driving swamp blues of Daddy Longlegs and The Swamp Donkey, the festival will be packed with a diverse range of performers.
Paul Robertson is the festival’s executive producer and says that while the event will feature international sounds, there will be local musicians too, along with ‘up and coming young artists’.
“We’ve been running the festival since 2011. We want to maintain and help create venues at which artists can be involved, including people with disability and from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background, especially with regards to music, performing arts, food, dance, costume and culture.”
There will be four stages set up. Three stages will feature artists for which spectators will need to buy a ticket to watch, while one stage will be free for all to see. This stage will feature many local and ‘visiting talented musicians as well as school bands and ensembles delivering a wonderful array of free music throughout the festival,’ explains Paul.
“There will be food, merchandise and community stalls,” he says. “We will also have fun things for the family, like painting and balloon art artists.”
Avalon’s Luke Escombe has performed at the festival since its beginning.
“There are very few places to perform original music in this part of Sydney,” Luke says. “The festival organisers are trying to support organic, original live music. They love it and I want to support them the way they’ve supported me and people like me, so I’m always really happy to be part of this festival.”
This year, Luke will surprise the audience with his unique music and humour.
“I am a singer, songwriter, storyteller. Each performance I do is unique, although there’s usually a bit of a narrative thread through my sets. So you’ll probably get a mix of folky storytelling songs, more sort of groove-based blues and roots songs, and then some really outlandish comedy songs as well,” laughs Luke.
The Northern Beaches Music Festival is a not-for-profit event supported by the Northern Beaches Music Alliance.
