Manly locals recently had a chance to see one of the little penguins (Eudyptula minor) when the animal started visiting the rock platforms and beaches along the Manly Scenic Walkway near Fairlight.

It is believed the penguin is taking some time onshore to recuperate from an injury, and it seems to be healing well.

Northern Beaches Council is keeping an eye on the penguin’s welfare in partnership with NPWS, Penguin Warden volunteers, and wildlife carers, and urges all locals and visitors to contribute by keeping themselves and their pets away from the penguin and its habitat.

The population of little penguins at Manly is the only breeding colony on the NSW mainland.

If you see a penguin, it is recommended to keep your distance and call the NPWS Duty Officer on 94579577 or email Northern Beaches Council to take it to Taronga Wildlife Hospital for assessment and care if required.
