Pittwater Greens are calling on the NSW government to provide more funding for Northern Beaches council, to fix local roads that have been badly damaged by rain.

Pittwater Greens Councillor Miranda Korzy recently submitted a motion for the next council meeting to redirect money from the budget to get on top of fixing the hundreds of potholes in the area as well as roads that need resurfacing.

“It’s time for the council to take stock and go back to the budget to find the money to fix the potholes and eroded road surfaces undermined by the La Nina rains,” Cr Korzy said.

“[NSW government] needs to provide financial help to the council to deal with the burden of damaged Northern Beaches roads – as it has offered to do for regional councils.”

Curl Curl Greens Councillor Kristyn Glanville added that she can hardly log onto local social media pages without seeing comments and memes every day about the state of the roads on the Northern Beaches.

“Well they’re right – it is a joke,” said Cr Glanville.

In a response to Cr Korzy’s question to NSW Regional Transport and Roads Minister Sam Farraway at the recent NSW Local Government conference, why the government had committed nothing extra for city roads, Mr Farraway said they would consider it.
