NSW government has partnered with Willoughby City council to host major upcoming multicultural events and festivals across the North Shore.

Council will receive up to $980,000 of funding over two years, for cultural festivals including the Lunar New Year, Gai-mariagal Festival and Emerge Festival.

According to Minister for Multiculturalism Mark Coure, the funding is intended to boost local economy and essentially increase the tourism attraction of local councils.

“This funding will help each of these councils take their events and festivals to the next level,” said Mr Coure.

Minister for Local Government Wendy Tuckerman also added that NSW government are boosting local cultural celebrations led by local leaders, helping to cater for bigger crowds so tourists can experience everything the North Shore has to offer.

“Local councils are the level of government closest to the community, so the NSW government working directly with councils… will ensure these celebrations benefit their communities directly,” Mrs Tuckerman said.
