Streets were close in Neutral Bay to save an injured magpie that got trapped in a tree on 31 January 2023.
Neutral Bay and Crow’s Nest Fire & Rescue, Mosman Police, WIRES and Taronga Wildlife Hospital arrived at the scene to save a fledgling magpie. The bird was entangled in discarded fishing line and become stuck 20m up a tree in Anderson Park, Neutral Bay.
According to witnesses the bird got its legs wrapped on the fishing line a few days before of the incident but was able to fly.
During the rescue operation, the traffic was stopped on Kurraba Rd as firefighters used an elevated platform to remove the bird.
The magpie was taken to Taronga Wildlife Hospital to receive a complete health check. The fishing line was successfully removed by the vet team. The bird was found to have no significant injuries and was released short after to go back to his parents.
