In its 12th year, the Bei Loon Dragon Boat Club in Bayview, hosted once again the most challenging race in the Dragonboat calendar: the Scotland Island Race!

The Scotland Island race’s 8 kilometres, takes over 45 minutes to complete and represents the longest Dragonboat race on the calendar.

Local wind conditions often add another level of challenge to the extreme distance, and this year was no exception. Paddlers were treated to winds of up to 25k, which frothed up the Pittwater adding an extra level of excitement to the race.

This year, 22 clubs from multiple States were represented across 15 teams. The winner this time, was Sydney’s DSA team, who completed the course in a highly commendable time of 46.22. Second place was grabbed by the Northern Beaches team, followed by Komodo from Canberra.

Dragonboat racing is a sport for those that enjoy some hard low-impact exercise, coupled with a good dose of camaraderie.
