Northern Beaches council says it will continue to help businesses reduce their energy costs through a group Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).

By leading the way in reducing sky-rocketing energy costs, council aims to run the PPA as a long-term renewable contract between a buyer and a generator or vendor.

The PPA will ultimately directly benefit local participating businesses by offsetting their carbon emissions and generating real savings on electricity bills.

Northern Beaches Mayor Michael Regan said there are more than 32,000 businesses on the Northern Beaches responsible for 38 per cent of CO2 emissions of which around 61 per cent is from electricity emissions.

“Council’s own annual electricity costs are expected to be slashed by a staggering $2.4 million over the next seven years,” said Mayor Regan.

“Not only will we reduce our carbon footprint, but these savings mean the money can be diverted back into the community for infrastructure and projects.”

Expressions of interest are currently being sought from organisations that can set up and run a PPA for Northern Beaches local businesses.
