The body of a swimmer has been located following a search in waters off Sydney’s Northern Beaches earlier this week.

At about 9.50am on Sunday 15 December, emergency services were called to Newport Beach following reports of a concern for the welfare of a man who was swimming in waters nearby.

Officers from Northern Beaches Police Area Command attended the scene, and a search commenced in the area including Marine Area Command, Surf Life Saving NSW, PolAir, Marine Rescue and a Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter was carried out. At about 11.30am, the man’s body was located in waters nearby to the popular beach.

This incident comes at the Northern Beaches Council appeals to locals to practice safety when visiting the many beaches in the locale. The body is yet to be formally identified; however, he is believed to be aged in his 50s.
A report will be prepared for the Coroner. Police are appealing to anyone with more information to contact Crime Stoppers.
