Manly teen Nathan lands a recurring guest spot on Home and Away

Young actor and model, Nathan Rhys Quevedo Murray, 15, is no stranger to the screen, having appeared in television commercials, fashion campaigns and feature films from babyhood. His latest triumph will see him step into the small screen spotlight on one of Australia’s most loved and longest running television series, Home and Away.

Born in Los Angeles, Nathan and his twin brother Noah relocated to Manly with their family in 2020 and the duo is now ‘raised between’ California and the Northern Beaches.

Nathan’s rich cultural heritage – including Filipino, Spanish, Chinese, Portuguese, Australian, English, Scottish and Irish! – and unique look ensured he was quickly snapped up for major brand commercials. He did Huggies, and even a Super Bowl advert before securing roles in American Horror Story and the feature film Carriers, when he grew older. He has also modelled for high fashion brands including Prada, Gucci and Missoni, alongside his brother Noah.

Since relocating to Australia, Nathan has headed up major campaigns for Best & Less, Calypso Mango and Hyundai.

Now, he is set to make even more waves in the Australian entertainment industry, by joining Channel Seven’s iconic beachside soap, as recurring guest character Cohen Luther. “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to be part of such a legendary Australian show,” Nathan tells PL.

“Cohen is a complex character with a layered backstory, and I can’t wait for viewers to meet him.” Nathan explains that his character Cohen was homeless and living in a tent with his mum, Samantha, played by Heidi May, on the edge of a Summer Bay neighbourhood, after the pair had experienced a tough few years.

Police officers are forced to arrest Samantha after they discover stolen mobile phones in her car and, when she is taken into custody, Cohen rails against her arrest, claiming she was just helping them to survive. Police officers arrange foster care for Cohen with Home and Away legend, Roo Stewart, played by Georgie Parker, but the pair get off to a rough start when he moves into her home; so begins Cohen’s Summer Bay story.

“My first day on Home and Away was such a cool experience. Everybody was very welcoming, all the directors, the hair and makeup people and all the behind-the-scenes people. They and the actors would all help me along my way,” says Nathan.

“If I got a line wrong, everybody would reassure me and help me and if anything happened, they were always right on top of it, and it was just great to work with them. It was a really good environment. Channel 7 really knows how to run a show,” he adds.

When he’s not bringing fresh energy to the small screen, Nathan can be found surfing the waves with friends at his local beach in Manly, tearing up the soccer field or cycling.

Nathan also supports causes such as racial inclusion, mental health awareness and anti-bullying, with the latter stemming from his own experiences moving from the USA to Australia, where people were initially less accepting of his acting and modelling roles.

Unsurprisingly for this rising talent who has already seen so much success, Nathan has big future plans, including appearing in a Marvel movie like one of his silver screen heroes, Hollywood heavyweight, Chris Hemsworth, who also started his acting career on Home and Away, playing high school drop-out, Kim Hyde.
