The search for a missing teenager who disappeared in the waters of Pittwater on New Year’s Eve has been called off.
The 16 year old was on a boat with two other men which capsized at Palm Beach on New Year’s Eve. Emergency services were called to Palm Beach at 11:35am on 31 December 2025, following reports of a boat capsizing around the vicinity of Barrenjoey Headland.
A 47-year-old man was pulled from the water by Surf Life Saving members and treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, he died at the scene, Police NSW said. Another man, aged 45, managed to get onto nearby rocks and was rescued by the Toll Ambulance Rescue Helicopter and taken to hospital.
Extensive search and rescue operations were made for the teenage boy, aged 16 – initially reported to be 14 – who was a passenger on board the boat before it capsized. Marine Area Command, PolAir and Marine Rescue NSW were involved in the search. On 4 January, at 3pm, the operations were suspended after five days of searching. Marine Area Command will continue to patrol the Barrenjoey Headland area.
