A water main in North Narrabeen burst early this morning, with Pittwater Road, Walsh Street and Berry Avenue flooded, slowing traffic and leaving many houses in the area temporarily without water.
At 6:30am, Live Traffic NSW put out an announcement that two of the three southbound lanes including the bus lane and one of two northbound lanes were closed just beyond the Warriewood B-Line stop. Multiple residents reported losing water in the area near the incident and were forced to take the long way around to find bathroom facilities. “To go to Warriewood Square, we have to go via Narrabeen, since there is a hole in Walsh Street and Pittwater Road, and Berry Avenue is just flooded,” said one resident.
At 8am, the closed northbound lane was being used as a second southbound lane under the direction of traffic controllers to aid commuters moving towards the city. Travellers were advised to allow extra travel time due to the accident, and multiple side streets were closed.
Sydney Water reported that their crews were responding to the burst water main to restore water supply as quickly as possible. Their website reported the affected areas to include North Narrabeen, Warriewood, Elanora Heights, Mona Vale, and Collaroy.
