Enjoy a perfect day of food, wine and entertainment

Balmoral by the Glass, formerly the Mudgee Wine and Food Festival, is back in Balmoral on Sunday 17 August where you can get up close and personal with Mudgee wineries, distilleries, and producers as they bring their cellar doors to Sydney.

The festival has been delighting wine connoisseurs and lovers with the best of Mudgee produce for over 20 years.

This year will see 20 unique wine vendors from the Mudgee region showcasing their products, including award-winning wines from Logan, Bunnamagoo, Robert Stein, and Lowe Wines.

Robert Stein Winery was established in 1976 and is now owned and operated by Robert’s grandson Jacob, who recently took the reins with his young family. The winery has been involved with the festival since day one, when his grandparents and parents participated as Stein’s Wines.

“I’m third generation,” says Jacob. “We’re one of Mudgee’s oldest continuing family-run wineries; most wineries in Mudgee are family-run and we’ve got big family values.”

Robert Stein Winery has a 600-acre working farm, with cattle, sheep and pigs. They also grow their own vegetables, operate a food truck, make their own salami and have a thriving wine club.

Jacob says the producers in the Mudgee region get along and work well together, like a big family.

“It’s a great way for the Mudgee region to share our story with Sydneysiders and to show our beautiful wines to people,” says Jacob.

Jacob says it’s often hard deciding which of their wines to bring to Balmoral.

“We try and bring some of our most popular wines,” he says. “Often rosé is a great wine for Sydney because if the sun’s shining, there’s nothing better than a glass of rosé on Balmoral Beach.

“The Mudgee region has such a wide variety of styles these days,” Jacob adds. “We’ve got Italian and Spanish varieties too, so we’ll have things like Tempranillo and Montepulciano. It’s a bit of a learning experience for people to come and try things that they normally wouldn’t taste.”

You can’t have wine without some gourmet delicacies and there will be a plethora of options to suit every palate, with more than 15 food vendors, as well as Mudgee producers ensuring you don’t go hungry.

Mudgee High Valley Cheese will help you select and sample their handcrafted cheeses and Cheeky Naked Oysters will be selling freshly shucked oysters alongside delicious lobster rolls from their Aburi Bar Grill.

Sofrita Paella, The Gnocchi Way, Popi’s Souvlaki and Society Pizza Catering are a few of the sumptuous offerings, along with Cut The Crepes and Yiayia’s Honey Balls (Greek donuts).

Live performances will entertain you throughout the day while you sip, eat and relax. There’s free face painting for children and Puppuccino Pet Spa will be making doggie shakes for your pup. Remember parking will be difficult, so take advantage of the free shuttle bus.

So enjoy a gorgeous Sunday out as you sip on a nice, chilled glass of wine in beautiful Balmoral, sample quality food and listen to relaxing music.
