Mosman Council has endorsed a high-profile fundraising gala dinner to help secure the financial future of Mosman Art Gallery.

The Gallery is faced with reduced government funding as council failed to secure four-year multi-year funding from Create NSW and hopes the gala dinner will strengthen the Gallery’s financial position by increasing philanthropic and private support.

Funds raised will support future infrastructure upgrades and inclusive educational and wellbeing programs for seniors and school children. The event also supports MOSPLAN’s goals of cultural vibrancy, social inclusion and infrastructure enhancement.

The prestigious dinner (proposed for 25 September, yet to be confirmed) will be a black-tie event held at the Grand Hall and Mosman Gallery and is sure to be a highlight in Mosman’s social calendar.

The event aims to raise over $100,000 through ticket sales and raffle ticket sales. The initiative will be reviewed after the event to ascertain its success and viability as an annual event.

Steven Alderton took the helm as director of the Gallery in May this year, replacing John Cheeseman, who retired in February after 15 years of service.
