A showcase of talent will be available to enjoy at the 11th annual Singing Up Country event on 6 July, featuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians.
It will be held on 6 July, the first day of NAIDOC Week, which has been a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples for 50 years.
Proud Yaegal musician and Northern Beaches local Michael Birk has organised the event, which is being held as part of the Gai-mariagal Festival.
Singing Up Country explores themes of belonging and caring for country. Since its beginnings in 2014, the event has been a ‘safe space for people to be whoever they are, wherever they come from,’ Michael says. The afternoon will feature a smoking ceremony, story-telling, and a walk in the regenerating bush before the concert begins. Musicians will include the Stiff Gins, Michael Birk and The Recognisers and Magpie.
It will be held at St Anthony in the Fields Catholic Church in Terrey Hills, and starts at 3.30pm. For bookings and more information, visit: trybookng.com/CZMNO
