For the second year running, North Sydney Boys High School has been the best-performing school in the NSW HSC. This sees the school once again beat traditionally dominant competition such as Carlingford-based selective school James Ruse Agricultural High School.

Principal Brian Ferguson puts it down to a school culture where everyone is important every single day.

“We have a true sense of camaraderie and a love of education at North Sydney Boys.

“Every student, staff member and parent is committed to the best outcomes of each student,” he said.

Mr Ferguson credits the commitment the entire HSC cohort showed as the reason behind the high results, which included nearly every boy getting at least one Band 6 in his results.

“We’re very proud of how they worked together as a group,” Mr Ferguson said.

School Captain Minh-Tam Dinh concurs, saying the achievements are indicative of the school’s collective spirit.

“I’ve had lots of support from my peers and my teachers, who were hugely instrumental in providing feedback and guidance.”

Along with an ATAR of 99.1, Minh-Tam’s major English Extension 2 work, a critical essay analysing Viet Thanh Nguyen’s novel The Sympathiser, has been selected for the 2024 Young Writers Showcase.

Of the eight English Extension 2, all had their works nominated for the Showcase.
